Manual environment setup and inconsistent releases made deployment slow, fragile, and difficult to audit.

Solution

Codified AWS resources with Terraform, standardized application containers, orchestrated validation and delivery in Jenkins, and automated host configuration with Ansible.

Commit → Validate → Build image → Security scan → Provision → Configure → Deploy → Observe
Lessons learned

Idempotent automation and early validation reduce recovery time more effectively than adding deployment complexity.

Future improvements

Add Kubernetes orchestration, progressive delivery, and centralized Prometheus/Grafana dashboards.

Shared controls work best when teams can extend them without bypassing the secure default path.

Future improvements

Introduce ephemeral test environments and deployment metrics for change failure rate and lead time.

Click-ops created configuration drift and made development and production environments difficult to reproduce.

Solution

Separated reusable Terraform modules for networking, compute, IAM, and load balancing, with plan review and controlled apply stages in Jenkins.

Lessons learned

Small, well-scoped modules and explicit state boundaries make infrastructure changes safer to review and reuse.

Future improvements

Add policy-as-code, remote state locking conventions, and automated cost estimation before apply.
